New bishop of Aarhus

Henrik Wigh-Poulsen enters the office as the fifth new ELCD-bishop in three years.


On September 6th the Right Reverend Henrik Wigh-Poulsen, was installed to the office of Bishop of Aarhus. Henrik Wigh-Poulsen replaces Bishop Kjeld Holm who held the office since 1994. He comes from a positition as dean at the Cathedral of Odense since 2008 after heading the Grundtvig Accademy since 2000. The new bishop was born in 1959, he is married to dean Grethe Wigh-Poulsen with whom he has three children. 

Five bishops in three years
In November 2014 Right Reverend Henrik Stubkjær was installed as Bishop of Viborg. Henrik Stubkjær was the General Secretary of DanChurchAid for nine years before taking this office.

With Henrik Wigh-Poulsen, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark has changed five out of elleven bishops in three years.
